Lloydspharmacy, the UK’s leading community pharmacy retailer, has opened a brand new pharmacy in Hendon, the first in the area to offer extended late night opening hours for the convenience of the local community.

The pharmacy, located at 50, Borough Road, was officially opened by Metro Radio’s Breakfast Show Presenter, Anna Foster recently. Joining Anna and the Lloydspharmacy team included local GPs and healthcare professionals, invited guests and local residents. The open day was an opportunity for the local community to meet the pharmacy team and also participate in activities including a charity raffle, where proceeds were donated to Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids appeal.

Iain Bowie, Lloydspharmacy area manager said: “We are delighted to open this new pharmacy in Hendon, which boosts our presence in the area and enables us to offer a wide range of services to help improve healthcare in the community. These services allow people to access healthcare through pharmacies, often without the need for an appointment and aim to support GPs, relieving pressure on GP surgeries.”

In addition to a comprehensive pharmacy and dispensing service, it will offer professional health checks including free blood pressure and diabetes tests in the comfort of a private consultation room.

Pharmacy Manager, John Boampong added: “By offering extended opening hours, we are also able to support GP surgeries in the area, as well as a number of other professional healthcare services.  

“In addition to dispensing prescriptions and over the counter health and beauty products, we also offer a free express prescription collection and delivery service for the convenience of our customers. We hope customers will take advantage of the many professional health screening services and advice available here at the pharmacy.”

LLOYDSPHARMACY MAINTAINS INVESTORS IN PEOPLE STANDARD FOR SIX YEARS RUNNING

Coventry-based Lloydspharmacy is celebrating after being re-accredited the Investors in People standard.

Lloydspharmacy has unreservedly maintained its Investors in People status for over six years, successfully investing in people management and development practices across the business, including its nationwide network of over 1,700 pharmacies.

In the report, the Investors in People assessment team were particularly impressed with the level of commitment shown by employees to serving the needs of customers in their local communities and the immense pride in helping people.

Managing Director, Richard Smith commented: “It is a significant achievement to get Investors in People status, but to maintain it over six years, as we have done, is especially pleasing. We are very proud of our continued status, and in times of economic slow down, it is important that we keep focussed on developing our people capability and in putting the customer at the heart of everything we do.”

PHARMACY UNDERGRADUATES GET A TASTE OF THE PROFESSION

First-year pharmacy undergraduates at the University of Huddersfield are being exposed to real-life pharmacy working environment in the classroom thanks to support from the healthcare industry.

Lloydspharmacy and its sister company, AAH Pharmaceuticals have joined forces with the University to set up a modern and well-equipped dispensary as part of its new pharmacy course introduced this academic year.

The University of Huddersfield has invested in setting up the mock dispensary to look like a working pharmacy, with branding and merchandising supplied by Lloydspharmacy. It also comes fully equipped with 16 workstations installed with Link Evolution software – a prescriptions management programme developed by AAH Pharmaceuticals. 

By holding classes in the mock dispensary, the University’s 64 pharmacy undergraduates are able to develop their dispensing and patient counselling skills to complement learning in a classroom environment.  

Margaret Culshaw, Pharmacy Course Leader at the University said: “The course has a strong emphasis on developing professionalism and the provision of a learning environment which mirrors a real-life pharmacy will certainly help our students to understand the obligations they will undertake as healthcare professionals of the future. Our working relationship with Lloydspharmacy is further strengthened with some of our students gaining first-hand experience in the profession by attending placement programmes in pharmacies local to us.”

Barbara Sutherland, Head of Resourcing at Lloydspharmacy added: “Community pharmacy is one of the fastest growing professions in healthcare and we at Lloydspharmacy are committed to developing careers in pharmacy at grassroots level by supporting courses like those offered by the University of Huddersfield. MP VISITS LOCAL PHARMACY TO LEARN ABOUT COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES

Lloydspharmacy in Old Exeter Street, Chudleigh hosted a visit by constituency MP Richard Younger-Ross on Friday to showcase the range of primary care services provided through community pharmacy.

Invited by Pharmacist Andrew Mawhinney, Richard Younger-Ross MP met with staff and discussed the expanding role of pharmacy coming out of the Pharmacy White Paper and the primary care services that the pharmacy is already providing. 

The pharmacy in Mr Younger-Ross’s Teignbridge constituency is one of over 1,700 Lloydspharmacies across the UK providing wider community healthcare, delivering services including Cholesterol and Heart Checks, diabetes and blood pressure testing as well as a Stop Smoking service and Medicine Use Reviews.  The pharmacy also works closely with local GPs in the provision of services, referring customers to the doctor as necessary to ensure they receive appropriate treatment.

“I am delighted that Mr Younger-Ross has visited our pharmacy and seen the extent of services that we provide to the local community”, said pharmacist Andrew Mawhinney: “We believe that the role of the pharmacist as a healthcare provider continues to move beyond traditional dispensing and are encouraged that the Pharmacy White Paper provides a foundation for an even wider range of primary care services to be delivered through community pharmacy.”

A pharmacy technician in Swansea has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to pharmacy care.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN WINS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION

A pharmacy technician in Swansea has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to pharmacy care.

Kelly Hann, a pharmacy technician from Lloydspharmacy was recently awarded the prestigious Lloydspharmacy Pharmacy Technicians Award 2008 at the company’s awards ceremony.  Kelly has been working at the Swansea branch for over 18 months and first qualified as a pharmacy technician two years ago.

The Lloydspharmacy Pharmacy Technicians Award is now in its third year and is sponsored by pharmaceutical company, Actavis. This year’s ceremony took place at Billesley Manor Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon and was attended by Lloydspharmacy technicians from across the country.

Each nominated technician goes through a robust selection process and are assessed based on their contribution to the business and their ability to work well with their pharmacy teams. A detailed telephone interview relating to their technical competence also took place as part of the judging criteria.

Commenting on her award win, Kelly Hann said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won this award and it is a fantastic feeling to be recognised by my employers and peers. The pharmacy team have been really supportive of my work and were behind me all the way when I received the nomination. The award win is a great accolade and I hope to continue to progress my career with Lloydspharmacy.”

Lloydspharmacy managing director, Richard Smith presented Kelly with her award. He added: “Pharmacy skills are at the heart of our business and we take staff training and development very seriously to ensure staff are fully competent to offer the very best in pharmaceutical care.

“Lloydspharmacy currently employ around 800 pharmacy technicians across our network and play an integral role in supporting the pharmacist to deliver high quality services to their local community and it is essential that we recognise their contributions to our business. I congratulate Kelly on her award win and hope this will inspire more people to develop their skills in this field.”
